Watch: Hooligans attack Winky D with bottles at a show in Chitungwiza while performing Ibotso

Hooligans attacked Winky D in Chitungwiza at Dam View whilst performing his controversial song Ibotso. Ibotso is a hit song featuring Holy Ten that drew so much attention in his latest album Eureka. A few days after releasing Ibotso, Holy Ten claimed that he was tricked by Winky D to sing a political song that is targeted at top ZanuPF and government officials. Since then, Winky D had been quite about the whole issue but it had been wars among ans on social media.

When Winky D graced the stage, many youths were happy to get an experience of watching Winky D live on stage. He produced some top hits as always and his stage management was unmatched.  It seemed there had been a sect of fans who had planned to disrupt Winky D’s performance. As soon as he started singing Ibotso, an unidentified man walked to the stage where he had a little chat with Winky before many people bombarded the stage. A few seconds later, bottles and items could be seen flying towards Winky D before his security took him away from the stage.

The videos trending on social media has brought so much attention from top politicians and social commentators. Norton MP, Themba Mliswa shunned the Zimbabwe police for stopping the show. Other commentators like Hopewell Chin’ono ans many fans also responded to the incident with so much shame. They are shocked how the country’s most decorated Zimdancehall artist can be stopped while singing about corruption.

Taking it to Twitter Themba Mliswa said:

In our troubled economy where youths are getting destroyed by drugs, young people like Winky D should be celebrated and used as models of how ghetto youths can make it cleanly instead of sending ZRP officers to fight him. Do we even know what we want as a country??
